The Russian Mining Chemical Company (RMCC) has expanded its range of high-grade magnesium compounds and begun production of highly active magnesium oxide. The compound will be made at the factory that the company opened recently, its third plant in Vyazma which is located in the Smolensk region of Russia. It will be sold under the brand name of MagPro.

MagPro is manufactured on a new calcination line in Germany. The line is designed incorporating state-of-the-art technologies and systems to ensure a high-quality end-product.

Chlorobutyl rubber (CIIR) and bromobutyl rubber (BIIR) are derivatives of butyl rubber (IIR) which are used in the tire industry for applications in tire inner liners, inner liner tubes, curing bladders and envelopes. They facilitate the production of more durable tires which have better air retention. Halobutyl rubber innerliner can make up as much as 9 per cent of the total weight of the tire compound.

Magnesium oxide MagPro performs the dual role of being an  HCl/HBr acid scavenger and scorch retarder/cure rate controller. MgO can be used in all applications except the amine cures, in amounts generally less than 0.5pphr. During the tire production process, it is added at the beginning of the mixing cycle along with rubber for better mixing and dispersion properties.

MagPro offers many benefits as MagPro is a natural product and is made by the indirect calcination of high-quality brucite at the company’s mining operation in Kuldur. Thus, there is no possibility of contamination of the magnesium oxide with the residues of fuel combustion. This production process  also prevents overheating of the product, which would reduce its activity.

 

MagPro has a precisely defined particle size distribution and a specific surface area of more than 140m2/g. The compound also has a very stable composition thanks to the state-of-the-art technology RMCC applies in the selection of raw materials by x-ray radiometric separation of ore. As it is derived from a mineral source, does not contain any volatiles like chlorides and sulfates.

 

RMCC’s new production line has a capacity of 7,500 tons annually. Final commissioning is now underway.In Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, India and North America, MagPro will distributed by RMCC’s exclusive partner, Europiren BV.
