Nissan will unveil two new concept vehicles geared towards improving city mobility at the Tokyo Motor Show: the new Paramedic Concept and the all-electric e-NV200 Fridge Concept.
The Paramedic Concept is packed with new technologies and features and is Nissan’s fifth-generation ambulance vehicle. The previous variants of this model were sold exclusively in Japan and the new version builds on the success of these models. The vehicle is a customized version of the NV350 Caravan, which has been designed with a view to providing patients with better comfort and can serve as a better work environment for paramedics and drivers.
The company will also use the show to launch a modified, all-electric Nissan e-NV200 Fridge Concept which is easy to park in an urban scenario thanks to its compact size. Normally delivery trucks are not allowed to stop in urban zones. The Nissan e-NV200 Fridge Concept is equipped with an additional battery pack in the cargo space to power a refrigeration unit and can be used to store and transport chilled foods.
Commenting on the vehicles that will be showcased at the show, Ashwani Gupta, senior vice president of the Renault-Nissan LCV Business Unit said that Nissan’s fifth-generation ambulance offers enhanced features that can make a real difference to people’s lives. The vehicle comes with vital life-saving equipment that can be used to respond to emergencies, especially in remote areas.
It is expected that the e-NV200 Fridge Concept will create huge value for commercial users by helping them to generate more business and by reducing the cost of ownership. It is a zero emissions vehicle and is ideal for busy urban environments where larger vehicles are often prohibited.
Other unique features of the new ambulance include Nissan’s industry-leading Intelligent Around View Monitor and technology to reduce the spread of germs. The ambulance has a lithium-ion auxiliary battery to support life-saving medical equipment when patients are in remote areas or in need of emergency assistance. It also contributes to CO2 reduction, as well as external and internal noise reduction.
Nissan is aiming to launch the ambulance at the retail level in Japan in fiscal year 2018 with the goal of doubling annual sales when compared with the previous model.
The NV350 Caravan, which was launched in Japan in the summer will also be highlighted at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Intelligent Emergency Braking, Vehicle Dynamic Control with traction control system functions and Hill Start Assist, which were previously available only on some two-wheel-drive van grades, are now standard on all NV350 Caravan van models. In addition, Intelligent Around View Monitor has been installed for the first time in vehicles of this class in Japan.
