We rarely give a thought to our vehicle’s air-conditioning and deodorizing system unless the temperature is really high and it fails to function. However, our vehicle’s air-conditioning system can be a haven for harmful microbes that can have a negative effect on our health both on a short-term and long-term basis. There are only a handful of players in this segment who have made a name for themselves. Hanon Systems, which specializes in automotive thermal solutions and is one of the market leaders in this field at the global level recently received a New Excellent Technology (NET) certificate from the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Hanon received the award for its deodorizing air conditioning technology that combines an ultraviolet (UV) light emitting diode (LED) with a photocatalyst for effectively deodorizing a vehicle. The NET certificate is given by the Koren Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to recognize innovative new technologies and expedite their commercialization.

Hanon’s new air conditioning technology can be used to eliminate almost all microbes and odor-causing substances from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit. It comprises an LED-based UV light source which sheds light on a light absorbing photo catalyst that releases free radicals containing oxygen into the air stream. These free radicals are capable of neutralizing odor and have unique anti-microbial properties.

Speaking about the certificate, In-Young Lee, president and chief executive officer of Hanon Systems said that the company was honored to be recognized for its research and development efforts aimed at providing a comfortable environment for vehicle occupants.
